Our experience with Oculus Rift

23 November 2015 ‐ 2 min read

Augmented reality isn’t the future – it’s here and becoming more prevalent in our every day lives more and more. And part of what makes Augmented Reality so easily accessible to us, is the technology that creates a Virtual Reality. Our team recently got up close and personal with one such tool – the Oculus Rift.

Imagine putting on a grand headset and being transported to an entirely new world? Well, that’s exactly what the Oculus Rift is – a virtual reality head-mounted display that was developed by Oculus VR. The headset completely immerses you into a virtual world that’s not only interactive, but intense too. Take a look at this video for just how intense it gets.

The Technology

Simply put, the Oculus Rift delivers a virtual reality experience that feels incredibly real. From the sleek design, customizable and comfortable headset to the vibrant visual experience of wearing it, it’s easy to see why the Oculus Rift is appearing on almost everyone’s technology wish list. This is not just another virtual reality device – it delivers a reality that’s virtually real.

Our Team and the Oculus Rift

Keeping up with the times has become second nature to us. We love testing new things, and pretty soon, we’ll probably be developing applications for devices like the Oculus. One Friday afternoon, a few of the brave and adventurous here at 4i played the game Affected, dubbed one of the best Oculus Rift Horror games yet. Once the headpiece was on, Affected launched each player into his or her own worst nightmares! Here’s what our team had to say about it:

“It’s unreal but you can feel how real it is because I jumped away from the computer as if I just saw a real ghost or something!”

“I played the horror game, and couldn’t sleep that night. Now I want one!”

“Fun and scary at the same time. Every now and then I find myself searching for the lady in the red dress…”

“The technology has become unbelievably impressive and truly creates an immersive environment interaction experience like never before! Definitely the future for serious gamers.”

“Explaining Virtual Reality without experiencing it is extremely hard. If you ever have a chance to try one of the headsets, go for it! Regular gaming is like looking at the outside world through a window, VR is like stepping outside.”
